Case Overview

For this major trading company client, which supplies overseas-procured goods to its own directly operated stores across 5 domestic cities, a logistics structure dependent on a single in-house warehouse in Kansai was vulnerable to threats such as natural disasters, epidemics, and terrorism. Building a new Kanto hub in-house would have required an investment of several hundred million yen, which had stalled management decision-making.

The Client's Challenges

  • High BCP risk due to dependence on a single Kansai hub
  • Building a Kanto hub in-house would require an investment on the scale of several hundred million yen
  • Kanto-bound transport costs on the scale of ¥120 million per year
  • No recovery framework in place for disasters

Our Proposal & Response

Leveraging the Meito Kanto GLP Logistics Center as a BCP Backup Hub

Meito Inc.'s Tokyo GLP Logistics Center (8,000 ㎡, including a 3,300 ㎡ bonded area) was leveraged as the client's Kanto BCP backup hub. By combining a 3PL track record of over 500,000 units annually with dedicated custom operations for the client, we replicated in Kanto the same system used at the client's own warehouse in Kansai.

  • Instantly established a Kanto BCP hub with Meito 3PL
  • Reproduced in Kanto the identical system used at the client's own Kansai warehouse
  • Kanto takes over all operations within 1 hour when Kansai is hit by a disaster
  • Reduced Kanto-bound transport costs by 18%

Client Testimonial

This was a project on which we couldn't reach a decision for 5 years — whether or not to build our own Kanto hub. By handing it over to Meito, we achieved it with zero investment, and as a result even attained annual cost savings of ¥22 million.
